Who?

We are seeking hair care and beauty professionals willing to help us get our message out to our target population.

Our project targets Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) men who identify as:

• Straight or Heterosexual or;

• Gay, Same-gender loving, a man who has sex with men; or 

• Transgender, non-binary, or gender nonconforming

Why?

Our project is called the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Outreach Program (BOP). BIPOC men are still disproportionately infected by HIV in the state of Florida. They are not at-risk simply because of the color of their skin! One of the reasons for this is a lack of access to information and available services. This is sometimes linked to structural racism and/or implicit biases that keep information from reaching them. We need to break these barriers. We need your help to do that. What?

We just need you to make an offer to your eligible clients. Once an eligible client is in your chair, ask them if they'd be willing to watch a six-minute video about HIV prevention. If they say yes, you give them a device we provide to watch the video. They'll be asked to do more but there is no obligation beyond watching the video and answering a few questions after the video. The whole process take about 15 minutes, and they are sitting there anyway! We ask you to do at least three of these each month. If you are comfortable, we'll also supply you with condoms to give out to anyone!

How?

How do you and your clients benefit? For every person you get to watch the video and answer those short questions, you will be compensated. It's that simple. We just require you to attend orientation and attend a quick call and/or visit each month.

When?

We are ready to start as soon as you are. We do ask that you attend a two-hour orientation Zoom meeting to get started and we will meet for one hour each month to check in and see how things are going. In summer 2023 we would love to meet all of you in person to celebrate (we will feed you)!

Where?

We are targeting BIPOC men in Miami and its surrounding areas.
